The Pet Behavior Newsletter was introduced in 1988 as an adjunct to veterinary clients of the BehavioRx Client Education Series of Dog and Cat Behavior Problem-Correction Brochures. It was originally intended exclusively for veterinarians and hospital/clinical staff. However, when the word spread to the world of training and behavior professionals, its circulation broadened dramatically. Even leading university libraries joined the list of perennial subscribers, among them -- University of California, Davis; Purdue University; University of Minnesota. When articles from the newsletter were first excerpted in OFF-LEAD, a leading obedience monthly, new subscribers gained added insight about current issues in pet animal behavior. Campbell's articles in DOGWORLD magazine introduced many breeders and even more dog fanciers to the newsletter. Subscribers are now represented in countries from Australia to Belgium, Canada to Argentina.
The newsletter is published four times a year. There is no rigid schedule for publication because, as Campbell states:
"This is not a publish-or-perish project. When there is really something new to be reported, we'll publish it. We don't just fill pages to meet deadlines. Lately, we have started introducing illustrations in order to better convey certain concepts and give it more eye-appeal."
Word count in the newsletter ranges from 3 to 4 thousand per issue on 8 pages. The subscription rate is $30 per calendar year.
One of its greatest resources lies in back issues. New subscribers have the opportunity to peruse the back issues listings and order copies at discounted rates--only $5.00 each, including shipping/handling. A back issue table of contents and Pet BehavioRx Newsletter order form are included.
