BehavioRx Case of the Month
for May 2001

This month's case involves emails from a dog owner who read (probably studied) one of our books, used the behavioral principles and techniques, and then wrote
to us about her experience. It is used here with her permission. It speaks for itself:

"Hi Bill -

I read your site a few weeks ago and then ordered your book. (The New Better Behavior in Dogs) Things are going very well in the training of our 1 year old,
85 pound dog (part wolf) named Bear.

He was a pound puppy, and finding out he had some wolf in him was not a pleasant surprise, although my husband and I do find the wolf howling he occasionally
does to be quite beautiful.

Some of our successes include:

Bear is now able to walk on a leash with a leather collar without ripping my armout.

He no longer pummels the cat, and is doing fairly well with the new 4 month old beagle puppy (however, I do not leave them alone together for long period of
times yet).

He greets new people with a wagging tail instead of hiding behind my back, and growling at them.

Bear will sit quietly for several minutes while on his leash now, whereas before he would race around barking wildly.

And perhaps the best so far has been that I can now brush him without him trying to bite the brush out of my hand.

I have enclosed a picture of Bear, we do not have one of the beagle puppy yet, but believe me her training is going very well.

Thanks again for the great site and wonderful book.

Gail McCowan"
