BIO-SONIC DOG TRAINING
Important Background Information Scientific tests tell
us dogs can hear sounds up to 60,000 cycles per second, three times
higher than most humans. What lab tests can't explain is the reason for
this vast hearing range. Even so, the following observations give us
valuable, compelling clues. From experiments we know the following facts: When a short, low-volume ultra-sonic sound occurs, an extremely powerful response occurs. It's called the orienting reflex. It contains two types of responses in this order: 1. An unconditioned brainstem unconscious response occurs---all ongoing mental activities are interrupted. The ears flick, and the head and eyes quickly turn toward the sound's location. 2. Almost instantly, a
conscious unconditioned, "investigatory reflex" follows .The dog thinks
"What is it?" And that's when the dog is ready to learn something! Used properly, these reflexes are powerful "motivators." When we give the Bio-Sonic beanbag a single, quick, shake and say a command at the same time, after a few pairings and body-movements, reinforced by praise and petting, dogs respond to the command alone... a conditioned response is achieved. Also, when the
Bio-Sonic sound occurs alone, (no spoken command), it interrupts what
the dog is thinking even more effectively. It often stops whatever the
dog is doing! We can then teach corrections to the dog by the way we,
ourselves, behave. For instance, we stand still to stop jumping or
'hyper' behavior; or we remain absolutely silent to stop barking, step
away from a door to stop rushing out doors, etc. Bio-Sonic, nicknamed
“The Magic Bean Bag,” is a durable, palm-sized fabric bag containing a
ring of light, musical 'high-brass' metal links. It weighs about 2
ounces. When tossed, its ultra-sonic sound is emitted when and where it
lands. When shaken once in the hand quickly, the sound occurs in your
hand. Two
