BIO-SONIC DOG TRAINING

Important Background Information

Scientific tests tell us dogs can hear sounds up to 60,000 cycles per second, three times higher than most humans. What lab tests can't explain is the reason for this vast hearing range. Even so, the following observations give us valuable, compelling clues.

Puppies and their dams have been detected making extremely high-pitched sounds. Litters of wild pups, just leaving life in their dens, have been seen scurrying back to the safety of the den, even though their mother was completely out of sight; but she had emitted high-pitched noises, audible only as a kind of throaty hiss to observers. Pups have also been seen rushing to join their moms after she made these 'silent sounds.'

Prey animals, like field mice, emit ultra-sonic noises, too. On the other hand animals that are dangerous to dogs emit ultra-sonics when they hiss. So, throughout life, hearing these sounds is important for self-preservation.

Even though our pet dogs don't rely for food on detecting underground critters, their high-frequency hearing persists well into old age, which is where Bio-Sonic Beanbags have a tremendous training advantage. They have been tested and certified to produce a specific ultra-sonic frequency by RC Electronics Reference Laboratory.

Pavlov's Findings

From experiments we know the following facts:

When a short, low-volume ultra-sonic sound occurs, an extremely powerful response occurs. It's called the orienting reflex. It contains two types of responses in this order:

1. An unconditioned brainstem unconscious response occurs---all ongoing mental activities are interrupted. The ears flick, and the head and eyes quickly turn toward the sound's location.

2. Almost instantly, a conscious unconditioned, "investigatory reflex" follows .The dog thinks "What is it?" And that's when the dog is ready to learn something!

Powerful Tools for Behavior

Used properly, these reflexes are powerful "motivators."

When we give the Bio-Sonic beanbag a single, quick, shake and say a command at the same time, after a few pairings and body-movements, reinforced by praise and petting, dogs respond to the command alone... a conditioned response is achieved.

Also, when the Bio-Sonic sound occurs alone, (no spoken command), it interrupts what the dog is thinking even more effectively. It often stops whatever the dog is doing! We can then teach corrections to the dog by the way we, ourselves, behave. For instance, we stand still to stop jumping or 'hyper' behavior; or we remain absolutely silent to stop barking, step away from a door to stop rushing out doors, etc.

In short, we can teach dogs both to "Do" (respond to a command and come, sit, etc.) or "Don't do," (don't jump, don't bark) For instance, as a dog is about to jump, tossing the Bean Bag quickly on the floor can stop jumping in a few minutes! To teach the Sit command, we shake the Bio-Sonic up over the dog's head so he looks upward and sits, while we praise happily.

Bio-Sonic training is quick, lasting and practical. It's a no-force method to train effectively and humanely. The training principles have been used with outstanding success since 1971 by Bill Campbell and thousands of his clients and students.

The Bio-Sonic Beanbag

Bio-Sonic, nicknamed “The Magic Bean Bag,” is a durable, palm-sized fabric bag containing a ring of light, musical 'high-brass' metal links. It weighs about 2 ounces. When tossed, its ultra-sonic sound is emitted when and where it lands. When shaken once in the hand quickly, the sound occurs in your hand.

Basically, Bio-Sonic gives us a way to make a naturally effective noise beyond the spectrum of everyday sounds to interrupt or gain the dog's attention. Nothing could be more desirable in training; i.e. a reliable Intention-interrupter or an Attention-getter. Best of all, using the Bio-sonic System is not complicated. Anyone can use it with their dog without having to master all the “science” behind it. Even wheel chair-bound   owners can use it. You learn quickly by watching the practice video, practicing the simple method, following the instructions, then applying it with your dog with a positive attitude and lots of praise and petting!

Each Bio-Sonic System includes:

Two Bio-Sonic Beanbags
Video with Bill Campbell showing you how to practice, and some application techniques
Printed instructions, plus

The complete BehavioRx Instruction Series, a $25 value, covering everything from Puppy Training to problems of Old Age and nearly all those between them, including Aggression to Owners, Separation Anxiety, Chewing, Jumping, Barking, Biting, Phobias, Unruliness, etc., etc. You simply integrate Bio-Sonic techniques into these programs whenever they call for stopping a specific act or teaching a new behavior.
